Icheon in southeastern Gyeonggi-do holds the highest concentration of active celadon and white porcelain production studios in Korea, developed from the historical Joseon royal kiln tradition that supplied court ceramics for 500 years. The Ceramics Fair in spring and autumn at the World Ceramic Centre draws international buyers and the studio village gives direct access to active production facilities. Icheon is also the primary source of the Korean rice variety (Icheon Imgeumnim-byeo) considered the finest for texture and aroma — the October rice festival and the direct-purchase rice shops are the food dimension of the same area.
