The embankment sections under and adjacent to Mapo Bridge are used daily by local fishermen who have worked the same spots for years. The fish pulled from the Han River at these locations — crucian carp, flathead fish, catfish — are not for restaurants; this is recreational fishing by retirees and off-shift workers who come for the hours spent at the water as much as for the catch. The atmosphere is unlike the organized riverside park zones: quieter, functional, entirely local. Visiting means being a respectful observer of an activity that has nothing to do with tourism.
