The Naksan section of Seoul's historic city wall is best experienced at dawn before the tourist traffic begins. The fortress path runs along the ridge above Ihwa-dong and Hyehwa-dong with views east over the Jongno rooftop grid and west toward Bugaksan. A small number of local residents walk the circuit daily as their morning exercise — the combination of the stone wall, the low light over the city, and the complete absence of other visitors before 7 a.m. makes this one of the better early-morning urban experiences in Seoul. The circuit is about 2.1 km; the highest point is about 125 metres above the surrounding streets.
