The Bukaksan ridge above Seongbuk-dong in Seoul gives the closest elevated view of the city's central core from any publicly accessible peak — the summit at 342 metres is reached in about 40 minutes from the Changuimun gate approach through the old Seoul City Wall corridor. The trail passes along the reconstructed Joseon-period city wall for most of its length. The north slope through the Seongbuk-dong residential area descends through one of the most intact pre-development hillside neighbourhoods in Seoul, with narrow alley streets and traditional architecture surviving in the shadow of Bukaksan's protected zone. The combination of the wall trail, the summit view, and the residential descent is one of the better Seoul half-day circuits.
