The original Seoul Station building — a Renaissance Revival structure completed in 1925 — has been preserved as a cultural space next to the current station building. The interior has been restored and is used for exhibitions and events that engage with the building's history as the central node of the Korean rail network. The exterior dome and the main hall give a direct sense of the architectural ambition of colonial-period public infrastructure. The elevated sky garden connecting the historic building to the Seoullo 7017 park above the adjacent road provides access to an aerial view of the station precinct and the surrounding Namdaemun corridor.
