Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Night Walk (수원 화성 야간 성곽길)
Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon — completed in 1796 under King Jeongjo using an innovative combination of traditional and Chinese construction techniques — encircles the original Suwon town with a 5.7-kilometre wall that is the most intact Joseon-period city fortification in Korea. The night walk along the fully illuminated fortress walls, with the city lights visible through the battlements, is a different experience from the daytime tourist circuit. The Hwaseong Haenggung royal villa inside the walls, the Namsumun gate at the southern approach, and the Seonamgangnu watergate give multiple access points to the circuit. Accessible from Seoul by KTX or subway to Suwon station in 30 minutes.
