Gyeongpo Lake in Gangneung is a coastal lagoon separated from the East Sea by a narrow sand barrier, surrounded by pine forests and one of the classic landscapes of Gangwon Province. The Gyeongpodae pavilion on the western hill above the lake is a Joseon-era structure that has been rebuilt multiple times; the traditional saying holds that the full moon can be seen reflected simultaneously in the sky, the sea, the lake, the nearby Gyeongpo Pavilion, and the visitor's wine cup. The lake circuit provides a flat 4-kilometre walk through the pine forest that the Gangneung population uses as a daily exercise route.
