Jeongdongjin station on the Yeongdong Line is the closest railway station to the sea in Korea — the tracks run literally along the beach — and the station has become the primary East Sea sunrise destination for Koreans who take the overnight train from Seoul arriving before dawn. The combination of the train journey and the sunrise over the East Sea from the station platform is one of the more specific Korean travel experiences. The Mourgis sculpture park on the cliff above the station and the decommissioned cruise ship converted into a hotel are secondary attractions. The beach directly in front of the station is walkable and the hourglass monument marks the millennium.
