Naksansa is an eighth-century Buddhist temple on the clifftop above the East Sea in Yangyang County, with several structures perched directly on the eroded coastal bluff above the water. The Uisangdae pavilion on the northernmost point of the cliff gives a direct sea view and is the designated sunrise viewing point for the East Sea — a 30-minute walk from the temple complex on the coastal path. The temple was severely damaged by wildfire in 2005 and the rebuilt sections sit alongside the surviving original structures in a way that documents the disaster directly. The coastal path below the temple cliff extends several kilometres in each direction.
