Jukseoru Pavilion in Samcheok is a Goryeo-period timber pavilion built on a natural cliff above the Osipcheon River — one of the eight great pavilion views of Korea cited in classical literature. The pavilion stands on a basalt rock outcrop above a natural pool in the river bend; the view from the pavilion floor over the river and the surrounding mountain valley is one of the finest classical landscape compositions remaining intact in Korea. The Samcheok area also holds the Hwanseongul Cave — the largest cave in Korea with a 6.2-kilometre accessible section — and the Samcheok Beach Colosseum, a modern performance venue on the coastal cliff.
