Hongcheon Palseongsan and Barley Village (홍천 팔봉산·수타사 계곡)

📍 Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do

The Sutasa Temple valley in Hongcheon follows an 8-kilometre forest stream circuit through a mixed hardwood and pine forest that is one of the more rewarding mid-distance walks in the Gangwon interior. The Sutasa Temple complex was founded in 708 CE and the valley environment has the completeness of an established place of practice — the forestry, the stream, and the architecture in sustained relationship. The adjacent Palseongsan mountain above the valley provides a harder day-out option with views over the Hongcheon basin. The Hongcheon area is best known for the barley field landscapes of Paldong that attract visitors in May and June when the green barley is at its peak height.
