The Suncheon Bay Wetlands Reserve is the most significant tidal flat ecosystem on the southern Korean coast, designated as a Ramsar Convention wetland and functioning as a critical wintering habitat for black-faced spoonbills and red-crowned cranes alongside resident populations of herons, egrets, and waders. The 8.2-kilometre boardwalk circuit through the reed beds gives direct access to the wetland interior at boardwalk level. The Yongsan Observatory above the estuary provides the overview perspective. The tidal flat extends to the horizon at low tide. Early morning visits in November and December find the largest concentrations of wintering birds in conditions that are as close to undisturbed as any accessible Korean wetland provides.
