Centum City in Yeonje-gu and Haeundae-gu is the primary luxury commercial and cultural district of contemporary Busan, built on the former Suyeong military airfield reclaimed in the 1990s. The Shinsegae Centum City branch — formerly the world's largest department store by floor area — and the adjacent Busan Cinema Centre (the primary venue for the Busan International Film Festival) anchor the district. The Busan Cinema Centre building by Coop Himmelblau features the largest unsupported roof structure in the world. The BIFF (Busan International Film Festival) operates from the Centre in October; the surrounding streets and the Gunam-ro promenade are the primary evening circuit.
