Gyeongpo Lake in Gangneung is a coastal lagoon with a 4-kilometre circuit path that passes through cherry blossom avenues in April and reed beds in autumn, with the Gyeongpo Beach barrier to the east and the wetland bird habitat of the lake interior. The Gyeongpodae pavilion on the lake ridge — cited in classical Korean literature as one of the eight great landscapes of Gwandong — gives the traditional landscape viewing perspective over the lake and sea. The surrounding Gyeongpo area holds a concentration of Joseon-period pavilions and the Ojukheon birthplace museum of the Confucian scholar Yi I (Yulgok) within a short walk.
