Gwangyang Maehwa Village Spring Plum Blossom (광양 매화 마을)

📍 Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do

The Seomjingang River bank at Dap-dong in Gwangyang erupts in white plum blossom each year in late February and early March, with over 100,000 plum trees covering the hills and the riverside flatlands above the Seomjin River. The Maehwa Maeul (Plum Village) festival draws the first large seasonal travel crowds of the Korean spring and the bloom period — lasting about two weeks — produces one of the most concentrated flowering landscapes in the country. The surrounding Gwangyang area is also known for the massive POSCO Gwangyang Works visible across the river, which creates an unusual juxtaposition of industrial and natural landscape along the Seomjingang corridor.
