The streets around Hoegi station form the student district for Kyung Hee University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and the commercial zone that has developed here operates on the logic of those institutions — inexpensive cafes, late-night study spots, food options oriented toward students eating across different budgets. The area is considerably quieter than Hongdae or Sinchon and retains a more functional student-district character. Several long-running pojangmacha-style establishments survive here that have disappeared from more visible university neighbourhoods. The neighbourhood is at its most active from around 6 p.m. on weekday evenings.
