Petite France

📍 Petite France-gil 1, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do

The surface reading is a Korean interpretation of a French village — colorful Alsatian architecture, boulangeries, marionette shows. The more interesting reading is what it reveals about Korea's intense relationship with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince. The book has sold millions of copies in Korea and occupies a cultural position here closer to a national fairy tale than a children's book. The village's Little Prince museum holds one of the largest collections of first editions and rare illustrated versions in Asia. Come not for France but for a window into how Korea receives and absorbs foreign literature into its own emotional landscape. The mountain setting above Cheongpyeong Lake is genuinely lovely.
