Seoul City Hall Plaza and Deoksugung (서울시청 광장·덕수궁)

📍 Taepyeongno, Jung-gu, Seoul

Seoul City Hall Plaza functions as the city's primary public gathering space — large enough for major demonstrations and public events, maintained as a public lawn in between. The adjacent Deoksugung Palace is one of the five major Joseon palaces and the only one within the modern city centre; the stone-wall road running around the palace perimeter is one of the more pleasant short walks in the Jung-gu area. The juxtaposition of the Zaha Hadid-designed new city hall with the historic palace grounds and the 1920s old city hall building gives a visual cross-section of Seoul's architectural layers.
