Siheung Sihwa Lake and Tidal Power Plant (시흥 시화호 조력발전소)

📍 Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do

The Sihwa Tidal Power Plant on the Sihwa Lake sea wall in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, is the largest tidal power plant in the world by installed capacity, generating power from the tidal differential between the Yellow Sea and the artificial Sihwa Lake created by the sea wall construction. The visitor centre documents the engineering and the ecological history of the lake — initially severely polluted after the sea wall isolated the tidal system, then partially rehabilitated through the tidal power station operation that restored some tidal flushing. The sea wall drive across to Daebudo gives one of the more unusual views of the Yellow Sea coast in the Gyeonggi area.
