Juam Lake in Suncheon, created by the Juam Dam in 1991, is the primary water supply reservoir for the Gwangju-Jeollanam-do region and holds an extensive water quality protection zone that has inadvertently preserved the forest and agricultural landscape around the lake from development. The scenic road circuit around the southern section of the lake gives continuous water and mountain views with the Jogyesan ridge visible across the water to the northeast. The lake circuit is accessible from Suncheon by local bus and provides a lower-traffic alternative to the more visited Suncheonman National Garden for visitors seeking a quieter water landscape.
