Sungnyemun Gate (숭례문·남대문)

📍 Sejong-daero 40, Jung-gu, Seoul

The southern gate of Seoul's original city wall, dating to 1398 and painstakingly restored after the 2008 fire. Standing at street level rather than behind a moat like most palace gates, it sits in the middle of a busy traffic island — which makes the scale of the thing hit harder than you'd expect. The surrounding small park is a quiet pocket in the middle of one of Seoul's densest commercial districts.
