Gamcheon Culture Village on the hillside above Saha-gu in Busan is the most comprehensively realised example of an informal hillside settlement transformed into a cultural tourism destination in Korea — the pastel-coloured houses descending in terraces to the Nakdonggang basin, the mural-painted lanes, and the public art installations have been widely photographed since the regeneration project began in 2010. The full walk through all sections of the village including the upper residential terraces (less visited than the lower gallery areas) takes about two hours. The original Taegeukdo religious community settlement history is documented in the village museum. Best visited on weekdays before noon.
