청주 초인쇄박물관 (직지박물관)

This is where the world changed before Europe knew it. The Jikji Simche Yojeol, printed here in 1377 using metal moveable type, predates Gutenberg's Bible by 78 years — yet most of the world has never heard of it. The museum sits on the original site of Heungdeoksa Temple where the printing happened, and the exhibits do a genuinely good job of conveying the intellectual and technical leap this represented. The physical reproduction of the type blocks is worth studying up close. UNESCO recognized Jikji in 2001; Korea quietly considers this one of its proudest cultural achievements, and rightly so.
