Botapsa Temple in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, holds the only large-scale wooden three-story pagoda built in Korea in modern times — a reconstruction completed in 1996 using traditional joinery techniques without nails. The pagoda stands 42 metres in the Deokseongsan valley and dominates the surrounding mountain landscape. The construction project and its method are documented in the temple museum. The valley setting and the scale of the wooden pagoda give the temple an unusual visual impact in a region where stone pagodas are the norm. The surrounding Jincheon area holds the Nongdari Steppingstone Bridge — a Koryo-period stepping stone crossing on the Miho River that is the oldest such bridge in Korea.
