The Dasan Cultural Complex in Namyangju commemorates the philosopher and administrator Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836) — Korea's most important Practical Learning (Silhak) scholar, who spent 18 years in exile in Gangjin before returning to live in Namyangju. The complex holds his birthplace, his grave, and the Dasan Munhwa Museum documenting his thought and the Joseon Silhak movement. The riverside location on the Namhan River gives the site a landscape character consistent with the classical Korean scholar's relationship to water and mountain. The Namyangju area also holds Bongseonsa Temple and the Pyeongnae area Korean drama filming sets.
