The Jeongseon Rail Bike operates on a former coal railway line through the Donggang River gorge in Gangwon-do, running 7.2 kilometres through tunnel sections and along cliff-edge tracks that give views into the deeply incised gorge below. The route follows the railway that served the Jeongseon coal mines from the 1960s to the 1990s; the coal mining heritage of the valley is documented at the Auraji riverside area at the end of the route. The gorge landscape of the Donggang is the most dramatic river canyon in Korea and is also accessible by whitewater rafting from the upper valley. The rail bike is the more accessible alternative for visitors without rafting experience.
