The beaches around Yangyang County — particularly Jukdo Beach and Surfyy Beach — have established the most developed surfing culture in Korea over the past decade, with consistent swell from the East Sea making the area viable for learners and intermediate surfers. Surf schools and board rental operations are well-established; the scene has attracted a community of Korean surfers and a small international presence. The off-season months of April, May, and October provide the best combination of swell, cooler water, and manageable crowds. The surrounding Yangyang area has developed a cafe and restaurant strip oriented toward the surf visitor that is more developed than the beach towns to the north and south.
