Yeoju Silleuksa Temple and Han River (여주 신륵사·남한강)
Silleuksa Temple in Yeoju stands on the bank of the Namhangang River — one of the very few Korean Buddhist temples built at riverside rather than in a mountain setting. The temple complex, with the Joseon brick pagoda above the river cliff and the pavilions overlooking the water, gives a landscape relationship between architecture and river that is absent from mountain temple sites. The surrounding Yeoju area holds the tomb of King Sejong (Yeongneung), the creator of the Korean Hangul alphabet, and the Yeoju Goryeo Celadon Kiln site — giving the town a cultural depth commensurate with its historical role as a key point on the Han River trade route.
