Museum SAN outside Wonju in Gangwon-do is a private museum designed by Tadao Ando, housing a Korean paper art collection and a James Turrell light art installation within a series of concrete pavilions set into a mountain landscape above the Wonju valley. The walk from the entrance through the water garden, the flower garden, and the stone garden to the main museum building is designed as a spatial sequence that prepares the visitor for the interior. The Turrell Ganzfeld and skyspace installations require advance booking and are among the most significant permanent light art works in Asia. The museum is accessible from Wonju by shuttle.
